| Obverse description | Central field displays the quartered royal arms of Castile and León — comprising alternating castles and lions — surmounted by a royal crown, with the arms of Granada at the base. The shield is presented in the characteristic baroque style of late 17th-century Spanish milled coinage. Mint mark (S) and assayer initial (M) appear flanking the lower portion of the shield. The partial Latin legend CAROLVS · II · D · G · HISPANIAR · REX runs along the coin's periphery, partially visible due to the irregular flan. |

| Reverse description | Central device features a large crowned Gothic 'M' monogram, the so-called 'Maria' type, in honour of Our Lady (the Virgin Mary), surmounted by a royal crown with fleurs. The date 1689 is inscribed across the field below the monogram, flanked by decorative elements. The surrounding legend, partially legible on the irregular flan, reads VIRTVTE PROTECTIONE with the Roman numeral value indicator. This reverse type is distinctive to the coinage of Carlos II and was struck at Seville under the 'Maria' series designation. |
