Opmerkingen

Issued in 1871, this note belongs to the immediate post-war period — the Tesorería General was reconstituted after the catastrophic War of the Triple Alliance (1864–1870), which had reduced Paraguay's male population by an estimated 60–70%. The country had virtually no functioning economy and no external credit. These notes were printed domestically in Asunción under severely constrained conditions, which is evident in their production quality.

The watermark is notable for a state-printed wartime-recovery issue — a security measure that suggests some institutional intent toward monetary stability, even as the republic was effectively under occupation by Brazilian forces.
