Reverse description A floriated cross with fleur-de-lis terminals occupies the central field, dividing the reverse into four quarters, each bearing a heraldic device associated with the Crown of Castile and Aragon. The cross is rendered in high relief in the Gothic tradition typical of Spanish hammered reales of the early sixteenth century. A beaded inner circle encloses the design, with the legend running along the outer periphery in Latin capital letters. The inscription references the royal titles of Charles V as King of the Spains and of both Sicilies. The coin's irregular flan, characteristic of hammered production, results in partial striking of the legend on some areas.
