Reverse description Central crowned quartered shield of the Spanish royal arms, displaying castles and lions in alternating quarters with the Granada pomegranate at base, flanked on either side by the Pillars of Hercules — the legendary columns representing the Strait of Gibraltar. The mint mark and assayer initials appear to the left of the shield, with the denomination numeral integrated beside the pillars. The circumferential legend HISPAN • ET IND • REX reads around the periphery, with the assayer initials completing the legend. The design is enclosed within a beaded border and reeded edge.
