| 背面描述 | Two crowned Pillars of Hercules, representing the straits of Gibraltar and the gateway to the New World, displayed side by side on a wave-like base within a beaded inner circle. The word PLVS appears between the pillars, referencing the motto PLVS VLTRA (More Beyond). The surrounding legend HISPANIARVM ET INDIARVM (Of Spain and the Indies) runs along the outer border, also within a beaded rim. The design is typical of the cob-style coinage struck at the Mexico City mint during the reign of Charles I and Joanna. The strike is irregular, as expected of hammered planchet coinage of this early colonial period. |
