Banco Paraná was one of several provincial Argentine banks granted note-issuing rights during the 1860s, a decade when the national government had not yet consolidated monetary authority and each province essentially managed its own paper currency. The bank operated out of Paraná, capital of Entre Ríos province, and its notes circulated in a regional economy still recovering from the disruptions of the Urquiza era.
At the "PS" prefix in the Pick catalog, this note is classified as a privately issued provincial issue — not a national government obligation. The 1 Real Boliviano denomination reflects the persistence of colonial-era monetary units still in everyday use alongside the newer peso-based system.
