Opmerkingen

The Real launched on 1 July 1994 as the cornerstone of the Plano Real, an anti-inflation program designed by then-Finance Minister Fernando Henrique Cardoso — whose signature appears on the earliest series of this note. The addition of "Deus Seja Louvado" (God Be Praised) mid-run, beginning around series A3834A, was a political and cultural concession that generated considerable public debate; Brazil's Constitution formally separates church and state, and the phrase had no precedent on Brazilian banknotes.

The rapid signature turnover — five minister combinations across a relatively short print run — reflects genuine government instability at the top of economic management during stabilization. Cardoso left the Finance Ministry to run successfully for President in late 1994, triggering the first change.
