Beschrijving voorzijde Central device depicts a fasces with a Phrygian cap at its apex, flanked on either side by a cornucopia overflowing with produce, all enclosed within a wreath of laurel and grain. The circular legend around the periphery reads ECUADOR EN COLOMBIA, with the mint name QUITO inscribed in the lower field. The overall design reflects the republican symbolism of the Gran Colombia era, rendered in a bold, slightly primitive provincial style.

Aanvullende informatie

Ecuador's Casa de Moneda de Quito operated under severe constraints in its early republican years — chronic silver shortages, inconsistent alloy control, and a workforce still trained under colonial Spanish methods. The .666 fineness of this issue reflects a deliberate reduction from the old colonial standard, a pragmatic adjustment made as the young republic struggled to maintain any mint output at all. Quito's mint would close permanently in 1862, making its entire republican coinage a relatively compressed run.

KM#13 pieces frequently show uneven planchet preparation, a known production artifact of this facility rather than post-mint damage.
