Shire Post Mint operates out of Arkansas and has produced licensed coinage for several fictional universes, including George R.R. Martin's Westeros. The "Dale" series draws from Tolkien's Middle-earth, specifically the rebuilt city of Dale in the context of post-Smaug reconstruction — a merchant kingdom whose coins are described but never closely detailed in the text, leaving Shire Post considerable creative latitude. These are struck as collectibles with no circulating function, though the copper composition was deliberately chosen to echo the low-denomination penny's historical material reality.
