Obverse description Central device features the shield of Lucerne — vertically divided, with the dexter half bearing diagonal hatching (representing blue) and the sinister half plain (representing white) — surmounted by a decorative foliate scroll finial. The shield is set within a wreath of laurel branches extending symmetrically from the base, rendered in low relief against a flat field. No legend appears on the obverse. The overall design is simple and heraldic in character, consistent with early nineteenth-century Swiss cantonal coinage.

Reverse description The denomination and date are displayed in three lines within the field — 'I' above 'RAPPEN' above '1831' — all in bold, upright Roman lettering. A finely engraved wreath of oak branches with acorns frames the inscription on both sides, tied at the base with a small bow. The legend is centered and occupies the majority of the reverse field, with no exergue line. The composition is clean and typographically balanced, characteristic of Swiss cantonal minor coinage of the period.
