Beschrijving voorzijde The arms of the Canton of Zug displayed within an oval shield, featuring the characteristic horizontal barry design. The shield is set within an ornamental wreath of laurel and wheat sprigs, tied at the base, with a decorative foliate finial at the top. No legend appears in the field. The overall design is bold and simply rendered in the late Swiss cantonal style.

Aanvullende informatie

Zug was among the smallest and least economically active of the Swiss cantons, and its cantonal copper issues were produced in tiny quantities to serve a local economy where billon and foreign specie did most of the real work. Production ran across more than two decades but was almost certainly intermittent — the canton had neither the population nor the commercial throughput to sustain continuous minting of the lowest denomination.

With Swiss federalization under the Helvetic Republic in 1798, cantonal monetary authority was effectively suspended, making post-1798 strikes from this series politically anomalous survivors of a system already declared obsolete.
