背面描述	A leaping springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis), the national animal of South Africa, is depicted in dynamic profile at the centre of the field, facing left. The denomination 1 RAND appears in the upper legend, while the Latin motto SOLI DEO GLORIA (Glory to God Alone) is inscribed below the springbok. The initials LL, for engraver Linda Lotriet, appear in the lower field. The design continues the long-standing South African numismatic tradition of featuring the springbok on the rand coinage.

附加信息	This series spans the final years of apartheid and the transition that followed — the 1994 date falls within months of the April elections that brought the ANC to power. Yet the coins themselves changed nothing immediately; the bilingual SOUTH AFRICA / SUID-AFRIKA design, a holdover from the segregation-era convention of equal Afrikaans and English status, continued unchanged through 1995 while the new government debated what a post-apartheid coinage should look like.
