Reverse description A group of five members of the celebrated 'Big Five' African wildlife — lion, elephant, rhinoceros, leopard, and buffalo — are depicted together in an animated, naturalistic composition occupying the central field. The animals are set within a stylized landscape featuring a radiating sun motif and a branching acacia tree in the upper background, while a pair of cupped hands holding an olive branch frames the base of the design, symbolising conservation. The bilingual peripheral legend 'BEWARING' and 'CONSERVATION' arcs around the upper border, flanked by the commemorative dates '1894' at lower left and '1994' at lower right, with the denomination '1 RAND' at the top centre. The engraver's initials 'LL' appear in the lower field. The design commemorates the centennial of wildlife conservation efforts in South Africa.
