| Reverse description | The FIFA World Cup Trophy is depicted prominently at centre, rendered in high relief. To the left of the trophy stands a sunflower and protea, emblematic South African flora, while to the right an elephant head is shown in profile, representing African wildlife. The denomination 'R1' appears to the lower left of the trophy, with the trademark symbol 'TM' below the trophy base. The legend '2010 FIFA WORLD CUP SOUTH AFRICA' with trademark superscript curves around the lower periphery, while the fineness and weight specification '1/10 oz Au 999.9' is inscribed along the upper rim, with the designer's initials 'CM' to the upper right. |

| Additional information |
South Africa's hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup was the first time the tournament had been held on the African continent — a bid that had been contested bitterly after South Africa lost the 2006 hosting rights to Germany by a single vote in 2000. The mint capitalised on the occasion with a bullion-adjacent commemorative series, of which this tenth-ounce piece is the smallest denomination.
The KM#508 reference places it firmly within the broader commemorative rand coinage family rather than the Natura or Protea series.
