| Beschrijving keerzijde | Kufic Arabic legend arranged in multiple horizontal lines within a rectangular frame or cartouche, surrounded by a beaded border encircling the entire flan. The inscription is clearly delineated by ruled lines dividing the text into registers, a format typical of Almoravid-influenced Andalusian coinage. The field beyond the cartouche is plain, and the beaded rim is well-preserved around most of the circumference. The die work reflects the small-module hammered technique standard for the quirat denomination of this period. |

Ahmad ibn Qasi was a Sufi mystic who led the Murābiṭūn revolt against Almoravid rule in the Algarve, briefly controlling Mértola — the Roman Myrtilis — from around 1144. His coinage is among the rarest product of the taifa revival, issued by a rebel governor-mystic who eventually allied with the Almohads and was murdered by his own supporters in 1151, the very year this emission likely ceased.
