| Descrizione del dritto | Crude barbaric imitation of a Roman imperial bust facing right, rendered in a bold but artistically naive style characteristic of Germanic tribal coinage. The effigy displays a simplified portrait with a pronounced nose and roughly delineated facial features, imitating the laureate or diademed bust of an unidentified Roman emperor. A garbled Latin legend surrounds the bust, composed of degenerate letter forms that approximate but do not faithfully reproduce the prototype inscription. The die work is irregular, with uneven relief and a somewhat flat, hammered strike consistent with non-Roman manufacture. The overall composition reflects the imitative tradition of barbarous Roman gold coinage produced beyond the imperial frontier. |
