| Beschrijving voorzijde | The national arms of Guatemala occupy the central field, featuring the quetzal bird perched atop a scroll bearing the date of independence, flanked by crossed rifles and swords with laurel branches. The date 2000 appears in the exergue. An outer ring bears the names of the other participating nations of the Fourth Ibero-American Series. The legend LIBERTAD 15 DE SETIEMBRE DE 1821 is incorporated within the design, referencing Guatemala's independence. The overall composition follows the standardized heraldic style shared across the Ibero-American commemorative series. |

The "Caballo" quetzal series was issued to commemorate the Mayan Long Count calendar and pre-Columbian heritage, but the horse motif on this particular piece reflects a distinct design strand within Guatemalan commemorative coinage of the late 1990s — a period when the Banco de Guatemala was actively expanding its collector program following the 1993 constitutional crisis that ousted President Serrano Elías. Mintages in this series were kept deliberately low for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation.
