Opmerkingen

Guatemala's quetzal turns 100 in 2024 — it was introduced in 1925 under the monetary reforms of President José María Orellana, replacing the peso at par and named after the national bird already embedded in the country's coat of arms and coinage tradition. Banco de Guatemala commissioned this commemorative issue specifically for the centenary, making it one of the few Latin American central banks to mark a currency anniversary with a dedicated polymer release rather than a simple overprint on an existing series.

G+D's polymer substrate here carries a full security rework relative to the standard circulating quetzal series. The centenary date gives this note a fixed collector window — it will not be reprinted.
