Obverse description Draped bust of Scipione Gonzaga facing right, with curly hair and ruffled collar, set within a beaded inner circle. The truncation of the bust is visible at the lower field. The surrounding legend reads SCIP • GON • DVX • SAB, partially legible due to the irregular flan and characteristic weakness of hammered billon coinage. The portrait displays the broad, somewhat crude style typical of small-denomination Italian States issues of the late sixteenth century.
