Obverse description Bust of Scipione Gonzaga facing right, depicted with long curly hair and a ruffled collar, set within a beaded or rope inner border. The portrait is rendered in a bold, if somewhat rudimentary, hammered style characteristic of minor Italian Renaissance lordship coinage. A partial Latin legend runs along the outer margin of the flan, reading SCIP GON DVX SAB ETC, referencing the issuer's titles. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with typical surface porosity associated with copper hammered coinage of this period.
