背面描述 The reverse bears a multi-line Latin inscription arranged horizontally across the field, identifying the issuing authority as PIVS SEPTIMVS PONTIFEX MAXIMVS (Pius VII, Supreme Pontiff). A horizontal line divides the inscription, separating the pontifical title above from the date in Roman numerals (MDCCCXVI) and the Bologna mint mark (B) below. Small ornamental stars punctuate the legend. The plain field and typographic layout are typical of minor copper coinage issued by the Papal States during the Restoration period.

附加信息

Pius VII spent nearly five years as Napoleon's prisoner — first in Savona, then Fontainebleau — before being released in 1814 and returning to Rome. The quattrino issues of 1816 onward were part of a broader restoration of papal temporal authority, including its coinage, after the Napoleonic suppression had effectively dismantled the Papal mint at Rome. The two KM varieties distinguished here differ in the arrangement of the divided inscription, a minor die detail that reflects the inconsistency of hand-punched lettering across multiple working dies at the Rome mint during this period.
