| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field bears the denomination inscription QUATRINO ROMANO arranged in three lines, with a small six-pointed star ornament above. The entire inscription is encircled by a symmetrical laurel wreath tied at the base, with berried sprigs and leaf pairs rendered in fine detail. The plain inner field and the wreath together give the reverse a clean, legible design typical of Papal States copper coinage of the period. |

Pius VI's pontificate coincided with the sharpest phase of Josephinist pressure from Vienna — Emperor Joseph II was systematically stripping Church authority across Habsburg territories, and the Pope's 1782 journey to Vienna, the first papal visit to a reigning emperor in centuries, failed to reverse a single reform. Small copper issues of this period from the Papal mints reflect an administration stretched thin politically and financially, operating on the back foot against Enlightenment-era secular encroachment that would ultimately culminate in Pius VI dying a French prisoner in 1799.
