Reverse description Standing half-length figure of Saint Paternianus, patron and protector of Fano, depicted bare-headed and vested in episcopal robes. In his right hand he holds a pastoral crosier resting obliquely against his shoulder, while his left hand supports the mitre. The saint's image is rendered in a simple, linear style consistent with hammered small-denomination coinage of the period. The circular Latin legend surrounding the figure identifies the saint and his role as protector of the city.
