Aanvullende informatie

Innocent XII — Antonio Pignatelli — was elected in 1691 after a two-year sede vacante, one of the longest interregnums of the seventeenth century. His papacy moved quickly to suppress nepotism through the bull Romanum decet Pontificem in 1692, effectively dismantling the system by which popes had enriched their families for generations. Gubbio's mint, a minor provincial operation within the Papal States, continued striking small copper issues through this transition, though its output for Innocent XII's reign was limited.
