Obverse description Quartered shield of arms centrally positioned in the field, surmounted by a crown at the top; the quarters display alternating diagonal bande and an eagle, reflecting the heraldic devices of the Bentivoglio lordship of Bologna. The hammered flan is irregular and slightly concave, with the peripheral Latin legend IOANNI BENTIVOL partially visible around the shield, the lettering characteristic of late-fifteenth-century Italian civic coinage.
