Additional information

Francesco Maria II della Rovere ruled Urbino for half a century but died without a legitimate heir, and in 1631 — seven years after his death — the duchy was absorbed into the Papal States, ending Rovere rule entirely. Small copper issues like this quattrino circulated at the absolute base of the monetary system, handling transactions too minor for billon or silver. The CNI XIII attribution places this among a well-documented but numerically scarce group; copper of this denomination rarely survived in collectible condition given its workhorse role in daily exchange.
