Reverse description The reverse depicts a seated figure of Saint John the Baptist, patron saint of Florence, shown in three-quarter view holding a long cross-staff in his right hand. The saint is rendered in a simple, slightly archaic style consistent with Florentine hammered copper coinage of the early to mid-seventeenth century. The surrounding Latin legend reads S . IOANNE BAPTIST, identifying the patron saint. The field is flat and largely unadorned, with the figure occupying the central area of the flan. Strike quality is variable, with weakness common along the periphery.
