Benedict XIV — Prospero Lambertini — was among the most intellectually engaged popes of the eighteenth century, corresponding with Voltaire and overhauling canon law, but his copper coinage for the Papal States was a chronic administrative headache. Chronic shortages of small-denomination coin across central Italy through the 1740s and 1750s forced repeated quattrino issues, each adjusted in weight or fabric to manage bullion costs. The MIR 2625/4 attribution places this among the later emissions of his reign, which ran until his death in 1758.
