The Manila Mint was established in 1857 — which means no copper quartos bearing Ferdinand VII's name were actually struck there. These pieces were produced in Mexico and shipped to the Philippines, where chronic small-denomination shortages made even crude copper coinage functionally critical. Ferdinand VII's reign ended with his death in 1833, and the Philippines remained dependent on imported metropolitan coinage throughout.
