Obverse description Central field dominated by the large papal arms of Alexander VII (Chigi family), displaying a crowned shield with a heraldic eagle above, flanked by the papal crossed keys and tiara surmounting the escutcheon. The shield is elaborately mantled and surrounded by decorative scrollwork. The circumferential legend reads ALEXANDER VII PON MAX in Latin characters, separated by pellets, running along the inner border of a beaded rim.
