Surrounding the central device, a continuous Arabic legend in elaborate Thuluth script curves around the full circumference of the coin, reading the royal titulature of King Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The inscription fills the field densely, leaving little open space between the legend and the central motif. |

The Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency was itself only established in 1952, and this issue belongs to the first coherent coinage program the Agency oversaw — a modernization effort driven partly by the enormous oil revenues beginning to reshape the kingdom's financial infrastructure. The qirsh denominations in copper-nickel replaced earlier silver-washed issues that had caused persistent confusion in circulation.
