Obverse description Central field dominated by the toughra of the Mahdi state in flowing calligraphic Arabic script, with the word 'maqbul' (meaning 'accepted') inscribed below the toughra. The denomination numeral '1' and the Arabic abbreviation for qirsh appear beneath in the lower field. The entire design is enclosed within a finely milled border of raised dots, characteristic of Omdurman Mint coinage.

The regnal year appears above the date. The design is surrounded by a milled dot border consistent with the obverse.
