The entity named on this coin — "Hejaz and Nejd and Dependencies" — was itself transitional, a political construction that lasted only until 1932, when Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud formally unified his territories and proclaimed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These qirsh pieces were struck at Bombay under British contract, a practical arrangement given that the Arabian peninsula had no mint infrastructure of its own. KM#15 represents the sole copper-nickel denomination of the series; the broader coinage reform it belonged to was partly driven by the need to displace the Ottoman and Hejazi issues still circulating after Ibn Saud's 1925 capture of Mecca.
