Eight five-pointed stars are evenly distributed around the central inscription in a circular arrangement, again referencing the eighth Imam of Twelver Shi'ite Islam, whose principal shrine (the Imam Reza Shrine) is located in Mashhad. The reverse legend identifies the place of striking as 'Holy Mashhad' (مشهد مقدس) along with the Hijri year of issue. A plain or beaded border encircles the entire design. |
