Obverse description Stylized effigy of the goddess Kali in crude, schematic rendering characteristic of local Cochin mint workmanship. This variety, known as the Shankillata Puttun (literally 'puttun without conch shell'), is distinguished by the absence of the conch shell motif. The design is rendered in a highly abstracted style typical of small-denomination South Indian coinage of the VOC period.
