Galdan Tseren ruled the Dzungar Khanate at its territorial peak, controlling much of Central Asia including the Tarim Basin cities — Yarkand among them. This bronze pūl was struck for local circulation in Yarkand, a city with its own deep minting tradition long predating Dzungar occupation. The Dzungars rarely issued coinage; this series is among the very few physical monetary artifacts of their administration, minted to serve a sedentary Turkic Muslim population whose economy ran on copper, not the livestock and barter that dominated the steppe interior.
