1 Principat - Ferdinand II

Ferdinand II of Aragon acquired Roussillon and Cerdagne from France in 1493 under the Treaty of Barcelona, a diplomatic masterstroke in which he traded his military support against the Italian campaigns of Charles VIII in exchange for the return of these Catalan-speaking counties pledged to France by his father John II in 1462. The principat coinage struck for Roussillon falls squarely within that recovered sovereignty, issued from the Perpignan mint.

Fr#230 is among the scarcer gold issues of the Crown of Aragon's French territories, with Perpignan's output dwarfed by the major Aragonese and Castilian mints throughout Ferdinand's reign.
