Beschrijving voorzijde The arms of the Republic of Cyprus occupy the central field, featuring a dove in flight carrying an olive branch, set above a map of the island, with the date 1960 denoting the year of independence. The shield is flanked by laurel branches extending symmetrically to either side. A circular legend in three languages reads CYPRUS, ΚΥΠΡΟΣ, and KIBRIS, separated by dots, with the coin year 1986 incorporated into the legend.

Aanvullende informatie

Cyprus joined the wave of WWF conservation coin programs in 1986, with proceeds directed toward the organization's global wildlife fund. The program, launched by WWF in the early 1980s, enlisted dozens of national mints to produce silver proofs tied to locally significant endangered species — a fundraising mechanism as much as a commemorative one.

KM#59a is the silver proof variant, struck alongside a cupro-nickel circulation issue of the same design.
