Ulster Bank Limited was a Belfast-based commercial bank with full note-issuing rights under the Irish banking system that persisted after partition. The 1921–1925 date range is significant: the Government of Ireland Act 1920 came into force in May 1921, splitting the island administratively, yet Ulster Bank continued issuing notes under essentially pre-partition arrangements with no interruption — the political upheaval that consumed the period left the bank's currency operations largely untouched.
Pick 388A is scarce in any grade. The series suffered heavy attrition through normal bank retirement and wartime paper drives, and Ulster Bank was not a prolific issuer by volume.
