Opmerkingen

Jersey's private note-issuing period produced a chaotic plurality of issuers — merchants, hoteliers, and trading houses all put paper into circulation during the early nineteenth century, with little central oversight. The Esplanade was among the more marginal of these, and notes issued under that name are rarely encountered today.

JN#66 is not attributable to a chartered bank. Without a formal redemption guarantee behind it, acceptance depended entirely on local trust in whoever stood behind the name — a precarious arrangement that became untenable as Jersey moved toward tighter monetary regulation later in the century.
