Printed in red on a pale ground, the note centres on the Tongan Coat of Arms set within radiating guilloche work, with the legend GOVERNMENT OF TONGA TREASURY NOTE arching above; tall palm tree vignettes occupy the left and right panels, evoking the Pacific island setting. The denomination ONE POUND is stated in both the upper and lower borders, while below the arms the place of payment NUKUALOFA, the date 1st January 1921, and three manuscript signatures of the Commissioners of Currency are inscribed. The imprint of Thomas De La Rue & Co., London appears in the lower margin. |
