| Additional information |
Egypt's state television, launched in 1960, was among the first broadcasting services in Africa and the Arab world. The 25th anniversary fell during a period of aggressive commemorative coin output under the Mubarak government, which used precious-metal issues partly as foreign currency earners. This gold pound belongs to a broader run of similar-format pieces from the mid-1980s, most struck in limited quantities for collector export rather than domestic circulation.
