| Reverse description | A bold portrait bust of Salah El Din El-Ayubi facing left occupies the center of the field, depicted wearing a turban adorned with a central ornament and a draped robe. To the left stands a detailed rendering of the Dome of the Rock mosque in Jerusalem. To the right, a mounted warrior on a rearing horse brandishes a raised sword, set against a fortified stone wall in the lower right field. An Arabic commemorative legend arcs across the upper field, and the entire design is enclosed within the same segmented decorative rim border as the obverse. |

Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi — Saladin — founded the Ayyubid dynasty in 1171 after abolishing the Fatimid Caliphate in Egypt, a political maneuver executed without a single battle. Egypt's periodic commemorative gold issues invoking his name carry particular nationalist weight given that Saladin was Kurdish by birth, yet became the defining symbol of pan-Arab resistance to the Crusader states. The 1993 issue falls within a stretch of Egyptian commemorative gold production largely aimed at domestic gifting markets and foreign collector demand rather than any genuine circulation purpose.
