Opmerkingen

The shift from Mathewson's signature to Goodwin's on the 2000 dated examples marks an administrative transition that, in hindsight, carries some weight — Fred Goodwin would later preside over RBS's near-collapse in 2008, one of the largest bank failures in British history. The note itself was well into obsolescence by then, but collectors tracking signature varieties will find the Goodwin issues the most politically loaded of the run.

Two printers, BA International and De La Rue, contributed to the series across its thirteen-year span — distinguishing their output requires attention to subtle plate differences rather than any overt typographic distinction.
