| Obverse description | A central vignette at the top presents two allegorical figures — Britannia and Hibernia — seated together, engraved in fine intaglio style. The denomination ONE POUND is stated in large letterpress text at centre, flanked on either side by the numeral ONE within ornamental panels, with a guilloche border framing the entire note. An extensive list of branch offices is printed in small type across the lower centre field, with the promise-to-pay inscription and date — 1st August 1918 — rendered in copperplate script above. |
