Obverse description The obverse features an elaborate calligraphic composition rendered in a combination of Kufic and Naskh Arabic scripts, centrally dominated by a tall ornamental alif-lam ligature forming a decorative architectural motif. The country name 'Arab Republic of Egypt' appears in Naskh script across the central field, while the denomination 'One Pound' is inscribed to the upper portion of the composition. The dual date appears at the base of the design, reading '1407' in Arabic-Indic numerals on the right and '1987' in Western Arabic numerals on the left, separated by a decorative floral ornament. The entire design is enclosed within a square-link border pattern running along the inner rim.
