| Opmerkingen |
The English Scottish and Australian Bank was itself a product of merger — formed in 1893 from the union of the English Bank of Australia and the Scottish Australian Bank, both badly strained by the Australian financial crisis of that decade. By 1910, the new bank was operating branches across eastern Australia, and this note belongs to its early independent issue series.
The "without pattern" designation in the Pick catalogue distinguishes this variety from examples where a security pattern appears in the paper or printing — its absence here is a manufacturing distinction, not damage or removal. The overprint element suggests the underlying plate predates this specific issue, with text added to adapt an existing printing for current use.
The bank was absorbed into the ANZ group in 1970.
