Cyprus joined the eurozone on 1 January 2008, which gave this series — issued from 1997 — a hard expiry date rather than a natural retirement. The Pound was pegged to the euro at a fixed rate of 0.585274 CYP per euro from January 2008, and all Cypriot pound banknotes lost legal tender status on 31 January 2008, giving the public just one month to spend or exchange them.
Oberthur Fiduciaire had held the Central Bank of Cyprus printing contract for several series by this point, and their Chantepie facility was responsible for the complete P#60 run. The security foil strip on this issue was a relatively early adoption for Cypriot currency at this denomination level.
