Superimposed over the bust is a large treble clef musical symbol, alluding to her celebrated musical legacy. An Arabic legend in kufic script reading 'تخليد ذكرى كوكب الشرق أم كلثوم' (Commemorating the Star of the Orient Om Kalthoum) runs vertically along the left field. The Cairo Mint mark appears below the bust near the bottom of the field, and the design is enclosed within a segmented inner border matching the obverse. |

Issued to commemorate Umm Kulthum, who had died in February 1975 after a funeral procession through Cairo that drew an estimated four million mourners — one of the largest in recorded history. Egypt's government moved quickly to formalize the tribute in silver, though the coin appeared a full year after her death.
The .720 fineness places it firmly in Egypt's mid-century commemorative tradition rather than the higher purity issues that followed later in the decade.
