The Currency Commission was an unusual beast — not a central bank but a statutory body established under the Currency Act of 1927 to manage the Irish Free State's new currency, which was pegged at parity with sterling. That parity was a deliberate political choice as much as an economic one, designed to reassure British banks and Irish farmers with English accounts that the new state wouldn't destabilize their money.
De La Rue printed the series in London throughout the entire run. Notes of this type are frequently found with foxing along the edges, a known issue with the paper stock used across the Commission's issues.
